There are many scenarios we have dealt with and these are typical processes we go through to ensure great quality recording and a sound you will be happy with.
Scenario 1
A solo singer/songwriter is looking to record an EP, needing a live band to perform with them whilst making a recording.
Step 1: Discuss the musical style and outcome the artist is aiming for.
Step 2: Record guide parts (vocals and guitar/piano) to a click track into Logic Pro or Protools. Work on arrangements if needed.
Step 3: Book session musicians (drummer, bassist, etc) for recording. The cost of session players is separate to the recording and production cost, but can booked by Armchair Audio if required. Musician prices start from £60 per day.
Step 4: Decide on a venue (rehearsal room/living room/etc) suitable for the recording.
Step 5: Edit - mix - add extra overdubs at Armchair HQ - deliver finished product as CD-R to the client.
Scenario 2
A conductor is looking to record the local Youth Choir.
Step 1: Discussion with conductor to find out exactly what his or her vision is for the music.
Step 2: Book a venue where the acoustics meet the needs and sound of the ensemble.
Step 3: Set up and test-record during vocal warm-ups and rehearsal, deciding upon equipment and techniques to use to ensure we get the best possible outcome.
Step 4: Record ensemble - mix at Armchair HQ - deliver recording as CD-R
